Bruce Melendy

 

LT Bruce Melendy is currently the Station Commander, of the Vermont State Police New Haven Barracks.  He grew up in central Vermont and graduated from Williamstown High School in 1978. After serving in the United States Marine Corps from 1978-1982 as a military policeman and receiving an honorable discharge at the rank of Sergeant, he joined the Vermont State Police graduating from the Vermont Police Academy 37th Basic Class, September, 1983 and was assigned to the Middlesex Barracks from 1983-1991.  In November of 1991 at the rank of Sergeant he became Patrol Commander of the St. Johnsbury Barracks and later transferred to the position of Public Information Officer in 1995.  In 1999 he was assigned as the Troop B DUI team supervisor, subsequently transferring to the position of Patrol Commander at the Bradford Barracks.  Most recently he was promoted to Lieutenant in December 2007 and his current position. LT Melendy has been a trustee of VPA since 1999.

 

He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services from Springfield College and has been married since 1981. He has two daughters, ages 24 and 21, and one son, age 18.  His hobbies include snowmobiling, camping, auto racing.
